Separate the opening systems
A handleless kitchen may use a grip channel, an integrated front edge or a push-to-open mechanism. The overall appearance can be simple while the way it opens differs. Ask which system applies to each cabinet.
| System | How it works | What to assess |
|---|---|---|
| Visible handle | You grip a separate piece on the front. | Shape, clearance and hand comfort. |
| Grip channel | You reach into a designed channel or recess. | Finger space and profile continuity. |
| Integrated grip | You use a shaped part of the front itself. | Access and cleaning of that area. |
| Push-to-open | Pressing the front activates a mechanism. | Compatibility, adjustment and use in each unit. |
Try a complete task
Do more than open a small door. Try a wide drawer, tall cabinet and integrated appliance where possible. Think about wet hands, fingernails, grip and everyone who will use the room.
For heavy doors or integrated appliances, confirm the specified fitting or opening assistance. Similar-looking fronts do not mean every door and appliance uses the same mechanism.
Consider its design effect
Profiles create horizontal or vertical lines within the scheme. Look at where they start and stop, corner details and changes in height. The profile colour also affects its relationship with the worktop and taps.
Visible handles can add a warm, graphic or restrained detail. With a long handle, check nearby walls and the movement of neighbouring doors. Visual continuity needs to support comfortable opening.
Cleaning and contact with the surface
With push-to-open you touch the front to open it. With a channel you use the intended grip area, and with a handle you use that piece. Visible marks depend on finish, light and habits as well as the opening system.
Request care instructions for both front and profile. An anti-fingerprint finish can reduce visible marks while still needing cleaning. Try the sample under lighting similar to your home.
Choose through a defined proposal
Compare the actual system and included fittings. Combining openings can make sense, such as a grip channel on base cabinets and a different arrangement for a tall unit. The combination should be clear in the design.
When reviewing a COSTAHAUS 3D proposal, ask how each area opens as well as how it looks. Recording the drawer, tall-unit and appliance solutions prevents the general label “handleless” leaving important choices unresolved.
